Shoefitr uses 3D to help buy the right kicks

Shoes are one of those things that can take a leap of faith to buy on the Internet. Sure there are online retailers like Zappos that offer free shipping both ways, but if you're in a pinch to get the right size the first time around, there is a new company that could help you do.

Shoefitr, who did a demo of its technology by the day Thursday's demo AlphaLab incubator in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is trying to solve the problem of size by eating shoes by a 3D scanner. The result is a company with a 3D model of the shoe that is accurate to .25 mm.These scans are then organized into a database of about 400 shoes (and growing) that can be cut if consumers buy from retailers who have used the Web Finder adapt to society.

The first site to do so will RunningWearhouse.com online retailer, which will implement the technology on a selection of his running shoes later this month.
