Being a mother is about more than biology
Sunday is Mother's Day. Commercial cynicism aside, for many people, it is a holiday. Many women spend the morning in bed with their children balancing of toast and a cup of tea, ripping the packages, see new plush slippers, complimenting the artistry of their house of cards and claiming that a pasta necklace was exactly what they have always wanted. They adorn themselves with jewelry and perfumes to prepare new and friendly chaos that is the traditional breakfast the day of the mother.
But for some, Mother's Day is not very fun.Some people want children and are not able to have or not allowed to raise them. Some children want parents and can not find them. Despite all the talk about the importance of family as social institutions, our laws and policies continue to exclude certain people from the family and raise children. Even after years of lobbying and parenting, same-sex is still prohibited from adopting children.
