Why the Hightop Has One Foot in the Grave

Western Conference Finals this season clash between the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers is a meeting of the two most talented guards this time Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant.

Between them, these leaders have raised dance floor combined 17 nominations and 19 trips out in the playoffs over the last 10 years alone.

But there is another, less obvious that the line should be attached to their resumes. These two guys, more than any other pair of NBA players, helped hasten the eventual disappearance of one of the most famous icons of modern basketball: Hightop Sneaker.

After playing his entire career in Hightop shoes and bulky midtop, the Lakers' Mr. Bryant asked him to Nike low tops for the start of last season. The reason: He thought they had better help him move. Shortly after he started wearing them, teammates Lamar Odom, Luke Walton, Josh Powell and Shannon Brown also works.
